Over the next decade, we will see electric and hybrid electric powertrains become the primary driver of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This will also accelerate the adoption of electric and hybrid-electric powertrains in manned aviation significantly.
What are the key challenges that the industry faces in transitioning to electric and hybrid propulsion?
Technology maturity of high energy density batteries and durable hybrid powertrains still poses physical limitations. The first niche applications, which would be possible despite these limitations, are still limited by certification hurdles.
